We’re planning to expand the garden plots for 2015, and we need your help to grow so that we can re-connect more people with creation and continue restoring broken soil ecosystems. We donated several hundred pounds of local, organic produce to the Grace Care Center in 2014, but we hope to donate even more in 2015.
This is where you come in…we need more volunteers and leaders to be even more fruitful in 2015. Continue reading to see what is a good fit for you.
We need 40 plot holders to fill up our community garden space. Plot holders are responsible for growing and maintaining a 5-foot x 20-foot plot. We ask that plot holders donate half of their plot’s produce to the Care Center. In exchange, plot holders are free to keep half of the produce for themselves. Plot holders are responsible for purchasing seeds, maintaining their plots, and donating half of their produce to the Grace Care Center. Project Eden will prepare each plot for the growing season.
Care Center Leaders
This year, the Care Center will be helping us to work the larger 20-foot by 20-foot Care Center plots. Every week during the growing season, the Care Center will have shifts on Monday morning from 10am-noon and on Thursday evenings from 7-9pm. We need 2-4 leaders willing to lead the Care Center volunteers that will be out at the gardens. We will equip the leaders with what tasks need to be done each week throughout the season. Examples of tasks include the following: weeding, watering, picking and sorting produce as it comes in, turning compost, etc.
If you’re interested in being a Care Center Leader or learning more, please contact email@example.com.
We need 6-8 leaders willing to lead volunteers and be responsible for specific vegetables that will be grown and donated to the Grace Care Center. Each Crop Captain will be responsible for a specific vegetable that will be grown in the larger 20 foot x 20 foot plots. We plan to grow tomatoes, tomatillos, sweet peppers, hot peppers, zucchini, and pole beans in the larger plots – all of which will be donated to the Grace Care Center’s choice food pantry. Each Crop Captain will be responsible for assisting the Care Center leaders to help plant, maintain, and pick from their respective plots.
If you’re interested in being a crop captain or learning more, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
In addition to the leadership roles listed above, we need beginner and experienced gardeners willing to fill crop teams, support plot holders, and help out around the gardens as needed. If you’ve never gardened before but want to learn more, we need you. If you’ve gardened for decades and are willing to share your knowledge, we need you. If you’ve gardened a bit in the past, but haven’t for awhile for whatever reason, we need you!
As a part of our efforts to restore the broken ecosystem of the soil, we are scaling up our compost efforts. We need volunteers willing to collect shredded paper, coffee grounds, fallen leaves, and other organic materials. Contact email@example.com for more information.
Spread the Word
Even if you can’t help with next year’s gardens, we need your help to spread the word about Project Eden. Share Project Eden with friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers who you think might be interested!
