Gala, Pristine, Honeycrisp, Empire, Fireside… These are some of the tasty varieties of apple trees that we planted next to the Project Eden vegetable gardens this spring, and that are growing well this summer. This apple orchard is being established in memory of Doug Gripp. A group of about 20 people, including members of the Gripp family and Grace Men’s Ministry, joined with Project Eden to start this orchard in April. We encourage you to visit the orchard today to see how well the apple trees and associated pollinator areas are doing!
Mac Williams, who is in charge of the orchard and is also a Project Eden Board Member, has been hard at work this summer, caring for the trees and the nearby pollinator garden. We hope to start harvesting apples to give to the Care Center Food Pantry in 3-4 years. Next year we will probably expand the orchard with some other varieties and sizes of apple trees.
